Background of the Study

Online political sentiment analysis has become an innovative tool for shaping campaign strategies, enabling political teams to gauge public opinion in real time. In Lagos, a tech-driven political campaign has embraced advanced sentiment analysis techniques to monitor social media conversations, online forums, and digital news outlets. This study investigates how sentiment analysis is integrated into campaign strategy development, examining its role in adjusting messages, targeting specific voter groups, and anticipating electoral outcomes (Ogundele, 2023). By analyzing positive, negative, and neutral sentiments expressed online, the campaign can tailor its communication strategies to address public concerns and enhance voter engagement. However, challenges such as data accuracy, the influence of bots, and the dynamic nature of online discussions complicate the effectiveness of sentiment analysis. The research employs a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative sentiment scoring with qualitative content analysis to evaluate the overall impact of digital sentiment on campaign strategy. The findings aim to provide a framework for integrating sentiment analysis into political campaign planning, ensuring that digital feedback is translated into actionable strategies that enhance electoral competitiveness in Lagos (Ogundele, 2024).

Statement of the Problem

Although online political sentiment analysis is increasingly used to inform campaign strategies, its direct impact on campaign outcomes in Lagos remains underexplored. Political campaigns face challenges in accurately interpreting sentiment data and translating it into effective strategies (Ogundele, 2023). The presence of automated bots, fluctuating public opinions, and the potential for misinterpretation of online conversations further complicate the use of sentiment analysis. This study seeks to address these issues by investigating how sentiment analysis influences campaign strategy decisions and voter engagement. By clarifying the link between digital sentiment trends and campaign performance, the research aims to provide actionable insights that can refine the strategic planning of tech-driven political campaigns (Ogundele, 2024).
